Minister of Public Works: Private Sector is the Engine of Cambodia's Economic Growth

PHNOM PENH: Addressing the Annual Meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol expressed his deep gratitude to the private sector, especially the Amercan Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia during the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Sun Chanthol, the private sector working with the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia have been contributing to the economic development of Cambodia, highlighting the role of the Royal Government in facilitating the business of the private sector in Cambodia.

The Senior Minister added the private sector is the engine of Cambodia's economic growth with the Royal Government acting as a facilitator, but not as a boss. As a facilitator, the government provides the private sector a good environment for success, adding that such success is also the success of the Royal Government, so please all private sectors should continue to work together for the benefit of the economy of the whole Kingdom of Cambodia.

In addition, the Sun Chanthol has spoken about Cambodia's remarkable progress in all areas, resulting from peace and national reconciliation through Prime Minister’s Hun Sen win-win policy. Infrastructure projects have also been achieved and implemented, including the 15,000-kilometers expressway connecting Phnom Penh to the Sihanoukville deep-sea port, as well the paving of national roads, provincial roads and rural roads. Other major constructions ard 20 major bridges, upgrading three airports to international standards, another two new airports under construction and upgrades or expansions of railways and port development projects.

The Senior Minister further noted that peace and political stability under the wise leadership of Prime Minister are indispensable factors in attracting foreign investors, creating jobs for the people and attracting tourists to Cambodia. As an example, the agricultural market alone has contributed to the national economic growth of around 7% in the last 20 years.
